The Gospel According to… Thor?
A review of Thor: Love and Thunder
So, if you can get past the frequent references to sex, there is a lot of profound truth to be found in this film.
For starters… there’s the idea of self-sacrifice — a common one in superhero films, but one that’s prevalent nonetheless in this movie.
Children — their value, and protecting them. Even the bad guy cares about children in this film.
The idea of redemption, and that there is always the chance for it, if enough love is shown and the person is willing to let go and change. There is a definite Darth Vader moment, where someone has a huge change of heart — brought upon by self-sacrifice.
There’s also this idea of teaching, training and empowering your children: preparing them to fight their own battles.
Finally, there is a bit about those in power enjoying their position without care for those in need, whom they could help.
And all of this in a film with as many jokes as a comedy routine.
